Tom Besanceney, President
Tom Besanceney, founder and President of Marketplex, Inc. can be characterized as an effective communicator with strong presentation and sales skills along with proven leadership and managing abilities. His biography includes extensive experience in public relations and marketing as well as economic development.
Tom Besanceney is president of the public relations and marketing firm Marketplex and a senior consultant with KMK Consulting in Cincinnati.
As an account manager for a large public relations agency, he created and directed the "Where's the Beef?" campaign for Wendy's International in 1984, and founded Marketplex coming off that success. Through Marketplex, he designed and implemented public relations driven advertising and branding campaigns for emerging hotel chains including Ramada, Holiday Inn, Sheraton and DoubleTree Suites. Later, he expanded the firm to include the services of market feasibility studies, property evaluation reports and sales support. His clients, located in 18 states in various industries, have included Ford trucks, Kroger pharmacy, Franciscan Hospital Systems and Graeter's Ice Cream. His copywriting has appeared in various national trade publications and magazines.
Besanceney's leadership in community service has also benefited many. After riots struck the historic Over-the-Rhine neighborhood of downtown Cincinnati in 2001, he donated public relations services to several affected businesses. The next year, he became president of the Over-the-Rhine Chamber of Commerce, where he instituted a sweeping safety plan, assisted with new development, and increased the financial base tenfold. Under his direction, the Chamber moved into an award-winning conference and office facility.
Previously, Besanceney led the newly formed ACT for Covington, Inc., an organization that stimulated historic preservation and new economic development, such as River Centre and the conversion of a vacant hospital to condos. He has served extensively in Rotary and other Chambers of Commerce, founding the Convention and Visitors Bureau on Bloomington, Ind. He was appointed to the Board of the Kentucky Development Finance Authority by Gov. John Y. Brown and received Ohio Governor's Top Achievement Award in Travel.
Tom graduated from Xavier University and has served as Director of the Xavier Alumni Association. He attended the Graduate School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and the Institute for Organization Management of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He is a Board member of Downtown Cincinnati Inc. and serves on the Government Relations Committee of the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber.
